DRZ400 3X3 Airbox Mod

The “3X3 airbox mod” is the opening up the airbox inlet to a size of 3 inches x 3 inches to increase airflow. Teamed up with upgraded jetting and a performance exhaust it provides a noticeable performance improvement.

On some DRZ400 models the 3X3 airbox mod requires material to be removed from the top of the airbox (with a sabre saw, dremal, hot knife etc) however on the modern DRZ400E Suzuki has made life easy as the airbox hole is already 3 inches x 3 inches with a removable snorkel that restricts airflow. It is simply a case of removing this airflow restricing snorkel to expose the larger 3 inches x 3 inches hole and the 3X3 airbox mod is done.

For more information on working on the DRZ400, I highly recommend the Clymer DRZ400 Service Manual. This is one of the best manuals I have used. It has helped me rebuild four DRZ400 engines over the years and perform numerous maintenance tasks. The instructions are very clear and it has very intuitive photo guidance.
